Drive to digital continues
Digital listening share in car is at its highest ever – at 10.9% of digital listening - up 38% year on year. Digital listening hours in car are up 41% year on year.
The share of analogue listening in home is below 50%, at 47.6%, its lowest ever, and in London it is only 40.7%.
52% of the population (27.7 million people) tunes in via a digital platform each week, up 10% year on year. Digital listening is now 36.1% of all listening hours, up 9% from 33% in Q4 2013.
Strongest-ever digital-only station performances were found across BBC and commercial radio, and digital-only stations now account for 28% of digital listening. BBC Radio 6 Music is the most listened to digital-only station, with its highest ever audience of almost 2 million listeners (1.96 million), bringing it level with BBC Radio 3. Absolute 80s is the most listened to commercial digital-only station with 1.18 million listeners, up 33% year on year, with sister station Absolute Radio 90s also up 30% year on year.
DAB is the most popular device for digital listening (65% of all digital hours), and 46% of adults have access to a DAB digital radio, up 10% year on year. DAB share of listening is 23%, up 10% year on year, online/apps is 5.8%, up 17%, and DTV is 5%, flat year on year.
