Smooth Radio set to launch first national Christmas station

Smooth Radio is set to launch Smooth Xmas, the UK’s first national pure Christmas radio station, on the Digital One platform.

Smooth Xmas will be the group’s first seasonal splinter brand and will start broadcasting on 1st November, ending after the festivities on 27th December and will dedicate its output purely to Christmas tunes.

The new station will initially broadcast non-stop Christmas music to get people in the mood for the festive season, but with the gradual addition of presenters and features in the following weeks. The station will also be completely commercial free.

The heritage Real Santa will appear on Xmas Eve, bringing festive cheer to everyone.

GMG Radio’s Group Programme Director John Simons said: “This is a very exciting time for the group, Smooth Radio has had a fantastic first year as a national station and Smooth Xmas will provide that Christmas music fix, whilst introducing many new listeners to the Smooth Radio brand via a targeted seasonal channel.”
